<description>Donating eggs is really dangerous, but that fact is downplayed. Fertility clinics often place ads in Ivy League school newspapers to entice smart female undergrads (eugenics?) to donate, promising big buck. The problems is that the donors are responsible for any medical bills that may result from complications, so many times, the donor ends up losing money in the process, not to mention the lasting consequences to her reproductive health from scarring and damage. Elaine Tyler May does a good job of covering this in "Barren in the Promised Land."</description>
